About Xanadu

Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.

At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. What we are doing is extremely hard, the classic moon shot. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will work within the Photonic Integration team to deliver Xanadu’s photonic quantum computing hardware. With your deep technical expertise and experience in semiconductor material and solid state physics, you will be responsible for analyzing different material systems suitable for photodiode material and device development. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform comprehensive analysis and model carrier generation and transport processes with the goal of relating semiconductor material properties, such as band structure, defects, carrier lifetime, etc., to  device performance
  • Analyze fabrication/processing induced semiconductor material property changes and relate them to device performance
  • Fit and analyze measurement data of relevant metrology semiconductor material properties
  • Analyze different material systems suitable for photodiodes development from fundamental semiconductor physics and material science point of views
  • Validating simulation software behaviour and working with software vendors to improve simulation fidelity beyond the state-of-the-art

Basic Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD in materials science, semiconductor physics, electrical engineering or related field
  • Strong knowledge in semiconductor and solid state physics
  • Proven track record of relating semiconductor material properties to device performance
  • Experience in commercial simulation software such as Lumerical, COMSOL, Crosslight, TCAD etc.
  • Knowledge of material properties testing and extraction such as absorption coefficient, carrier lifetime, carrier mobility, defect density etc.
  • Experience in modeling semiconductor devices such as photodiodes, lasers, solar cells, transistors, etc.
  • Experience with data analysis and related software, such as Python, MATLAB, etc.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle challenging problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Excellent communication skills and strong sense of teamwork

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • ≥ 2 years of experience with semiconductor simulation and modeling
  • Experience in device modeling with Ge and III-V materials
  • Experience in semiconductor material processing/growth
  • Experience in coordinating with external vendors that provide material testing services
