Quantum Architecture Scientist - Tensor Networks Specialist (Intermediate to Senior)
About Xanadu:
Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.
At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!
Your role and responsibilities:
- Research, develop and implement theory and performant simulation tools for studying noise in large-scale photonic quantum architectures and designing Xanadu’s next-generation quantum hardware, with an emphasis on employing tensor network methods.
- Collaborate with team members across architecture and hardware.
- Document and communicate results clearly within the team.
Basic qualifications and experience:
- Masters or PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with tensor network techniques, e.g. implementing matrix product state algorithms to simulate large quantum states.
- Proven ability in numerical simulations, e.g. a paper or GitHub repo for a research or course project where you developed or implemented a numerical technique.
- Proficiency in Python for scientific computing, e.g. for research, coursework, personal projects, coding challenges, or hackathons; include GitHub profile on CV if available.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, with experience contributing to shared research projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Postdoctoral or industry experience in quantum technology or condensed matter physics.
- Familiarity with theoretical quantum optics, including Gaussian quantum optics and noise processes.
- Familiarity with quantum error correction or measurement-based quantum computing.
- Familiarity with numerical sampling techniques.
- Experience with high-performance computing or parallelized simulation workflows or GPU-accelerated computations.
- Knowledge of basic software development best practices (testing, code documentation, code reviews).
- Proven track record of working effectively within research teams.
This is a new position. The base salary range for an Intermediate position is 100,000 - 140,000 CAD and for a Senior position is 140,000 - 180,000 CAD, determined based on your location, experience, and internal benchmarks. You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
