Legal and Compliance Assistant (Hybrid)

Your role and responsibilities:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal and Compliance Assistant to join our fast-growing legal team. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of experience from both a law firm and an in-house legal department at a dynamic technology company. This role is essential for supporting our legal and compliance functions, particularly in the areas of intellectual property, regulatory compliance, contract management, and general legal operations. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with export controls and other complex regulatory frameworks is highly desirable, although not required.
- Compliance Program Support: Assist in the administration and maintenance of the company's compliance programs, including but not limited to, export controls, sanctions, data privacy (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), anti-corruption, and intellectual property
- Export Controls: Work closely with the legal team to support the company's export control compliance efforts. This includes assisting with product classifications, license applications, sanctions screening, and maintaining accurate records of export transactions
- Contract Management: Support the full lifecycle of contracts, from drafting and review of standard agreements (e.g., NDAs, vendor agreements, partnership contracts) to managing the company’s contract database and ensuring proper execution and filing
- Legal Operations: Provide administrative and operational support to the legal team. This includes managing legal invoices, maintaining the legal department's calendar, and organizing and maintaining legal files and records
- Regulatory Research: Conduct legal and factual research on a wide range of topics, with a specific focus on regulatory changes and new compliance obligations affecting the quantum computing industry
- Litigation and Dispute Support: Assist in gathering information and documents for litigation, investigations, or disputes. Coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders as needed
- Training and Education: Help prepare materials for and assist in delivering internal training sessions on legal and compliance topics to employees across the organization
- General Administration: Handle day-to-day administrative tasks for the legal department, including scheduling meetings, preparing presentations, and coordinating travel
Basic qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or similar role
- Proven experience working in a corporate law firm setting, or proven experience working in an in-house legal department at a technology company
- Ideal candidates will have both firm and in-house experience
- Strong understanding of legal principles and practices, with excellent legal research and writing skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal software/databases
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization
- Experience and familiarity with contract management and legal ops software
- Direct experience with U.S. and/or international export control regulations (e.g., ITAR, EAR)
- Experience with other regulatory compliance frameworks, such as data privacy (GDPR, CCPA), anti-bribery (FCPA), or antitrust laws
- Direct experience with intellectual property processes and documentation
